Split face
Split face stone — also known as stacked stone, ledge stone or stone slips — is made by splitting larger pieces of natural stone to reveal a lively, textured surface. It’s popular for its easy care, long lifespan and colour stability, and it pairs beautifully with wood, glass and plaster in both indoor and outdoor projects.
Stacked stone & ledge stone
Use split face for expressive stone wall cladding on façades, plinths and garden walls, or as an interior stone accent wall. It delivers deep relief, crisp shadow lines and a genuinely natural look that suits modern and rustic architecture alike. See ideas for facade cladding, fence cladding and fireplace cladding.
Stone siding – exterior & interior
Split face works perfectly as stone siding, including outside stone siding and exterior stone siding on houses and boundary walls. Indoors it creates warm, tactile feature areas in living rooms, halls and kitchens; a stacked stone fireplace quickly becomes the focal point of the space.
Stone slips – sizes & formats
We stock split cladding in practical strip sizes and variable lengths to speed up installation and minimise cutting. Typical formats include 15×5 cm (5.9×2 in), 20×6 cm (7.9×2.4 in), 30×7–7.5 cm (11.8×2.8–3 in), 30×10 cm (11.8×3.9 in) and brick-style heights of 8 cm (3.1 in) or 10 cm (3.9 in) (with variable lengths around 15–50 cm (5.9–19.7 in)). Wall cladding thickness is commonly 1–3 cm (0.4–1.2 in); heavier paving variants start from 2–4 cm (0.8–1.6 in) and above depending on load. Matching corner elements are available for neat external edges.
Split face materials
- Andesite — very weather-resistant and long-lasting; also used in landscaping and gabions.
- Gneiss — durable and expressive; great for façades and interior features.
- Sandstone — easy to work and breathable; decorative with natural insulation benefits.
- Limestone — clean, lighter split; among the thinnest for stone slips and ledge stone.
- Quartzite — extremely resistant to mechanical and chemical wear; ideal in high-traffic areas.
- Travertine and Marble — elegant tones for refined interiors and sheltered exteriors.
- Slate — rich colour variation and strong texture for contemporary accents.
